I underestimated how much people love George Saunders. I showed up twenty minutes before his reading at Powell's and realized I was in the overflow line, the room had already filled up. Enough people left the reading early that I actually managed to make it in to catch half of his last story. He was a great storyteller, he really got into the voices of his characters, which I appreciate more than the breathy reverence I sometimes hear at readings. I will definitely check out Tenth of December once I get through some of the books that have been hanging out on my to-read shelf now that I finally finished Anna Karenina.
