Saga

I'm a little late to the Saga love-fest which my comic book friends are in.

What is Saga about? Well it's about two people with a baby trying to escape from a war that has consumed an entire galaxy. Oh, and they are in a Romeo and Juliet type situation and each of their respective cultures wants them dead. The galaxy they are trying to escape contains magic, ghostly dismembered teenagers, robot royalty, spaceships made of wood, sex-planets, bounty hunters, monsters, and a cat that can tell if you're lying. If that sounds too fantastic to be enjoyable then you'll be glad to know that the characters feel real and you can connect with them as a reader, even the ones trying to kill the protagonists. Also the baby (or the woman the baby grow up to be) narrates the book, which works better than it sounds.

And the art? It's gorgeous. I like lines that are a little rough, reminding you that you are looking at something someone drew.

Also good: the transitions, when the story switches over to a new viewpoint the first panel is always perfect, visually striking, and throwing you right into the next scene.

Buy this comic. It's only $10.
