Telephone

Telephone

Almost a year ago today I received an email from Nathan Langston with this digital illustration attached:

Art by Charles Schuster

Art by Charles Schuster

I had two weeks to turn that illustration into a short story.

Several years ago I participated in a a game of artists telephone. Each artist received a piece of art from an artist in a different medium and had to translate it into their respective mediums, knowing that the art was an interpretation of a passage of text at the start of the game.

During the pandemic the creator decided to start the game again, so I signed up. I hadn’t been writing and I thought it would be good to have an assignment.

The story I sent back to Nathan was given to three other artists and branched out from there, spreading across the world, to finally coalesce back into one piece of art.

You can check out the new Telephone here. Set aside some time to get lost in the work.

Also, check out some work by some talented friends: Martha Grover, Stephan Nance, and Tyler Brewington.
